Naval Air Station Norfolk Air Show Archives

The first air show at Naval Air Station Norfolk took place on March 22, 1953.  In 1954, the air show became the “grand finale” of the annual Azalea Festival, a week-long series of events that celebrates the city of Norfolk’s alliance with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).  The last air show was held on April 27 and 28 of 2002. Due to the events following the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Navy decided to eliminate the air show and instead focus its resources on the show held at Naval Air Station Oceana (see article below dated March 2, 2002 from The Virginian-Pilot).
