The Dyess Big Country Airfest is the name of the air show that takes place in Abilene, Texas. The Airfest alternates between Dyess Air Force Base and Abilene Regional Airport and serves to commemorate the 70-plus years of Air Force air-power in the Abilene area. Dyess Air Force Base was established in 1942 as Abilene Army Air Base and is named after Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and Texas native William Dyess. The facility is home to the 7th Bomb Wing consisting of two B-1 Lancer squadrons in addition to C-130 Hercules aircraft of the 317th Airlift Group.
